Scrupulosity at the Movie Monday Theatre in the Eric Martin Pavilion
Hopefully this will be the first in a series of Fringe-style shows exploring mental Illness and recovery. Ever since starting Movie Monday in 1993, I’ve been meeting people who have been turning their experiences with mental illness, addiction and life – into art. It might be graphic art, music, film or performance but I’ve always found their work insightful, affecting and inspiring. The EMP Theatre was originally built in part for “psycho-drama”. I’m pleased, as an extension of Movie Monday’s commitment to education through film, to use this great little stage to revisit that purpose with live performances – personal explorations by folks who have faced those challenges. When I first saw Andrew Bailey perform his play I regretted that I could only wonder as an audience member about the reality of his experience. Tonight he will be on hand after the show to answer questions and join in what I expect will be a dynamic discussion of the issues broached in his play.

Grand Rounds
Here are some examples of times when I worked with the organizers of Psychiatric Grand Rounds, CPD, Continuing Professional Development – essentially Tuesday morning accredited, interactive lectures for psychiatrists and social workers, case managers etc. It often worked out well because I would have guests on Monday night presenting on mental illness themes and Grand Rounds was held in our same theatre first thing next morning. As well as the event posters, examples of CPD proposals are included.
Insights courses: Mental Illness 2013 and Dementia 2014
These were two courses I put on, using movies and discussion as a learning method. The focus was on service providers particularly to raise awareness about how the medium can be used in practice. Both could be used for continuing professional development credits.
